The Fun Experiences
Splash It
Our trip to the Upper Kern River was very fun. First, after the 4 hour drive to get there, we had a 20-25 min. break for everyone to get settled in. Then, we started setting up campsite. Soon after that, all of the new scouts were taught how to find north when the sun was there. After, we strangely had a lot of free time on out hands. Soon before dinner, all patrols were told to make up a skit for campfire. After dinner, there was campfire and the skits were performed. We also had jokes, riddles, and marshmallows. New scouts were also told how to find the North Star and we were given about 15 minutes of free time.
The next day we first had breakfast and then we started getting the campsite wrapped up. Then everyone who had their own wetsuit got in it and then we went to the Kern River and were told of the safety guidelines. We all went rafting down the river 5 times. The first time we got used to everything we had to do and the rapids we would go through. The next few times, we went for fun and had lots of splash fights. During the 5th one, the older scouts were able to kayak down the river. After, everyone got changed and ready for the 4-hour drive back. All in all, it was one great outing.
It's Crazy Fun
The whitewater rafting trip I went on at the Kern River was an unforgettable experience. I loved being able to go on those huge rapids in the big rafts that we were in. Even though the water was really cold, we were able to jump out of the raft and into the water in areas where the water was calm and there were no rapids. It was also fun racing the other rafts to see who would get to the area where we got off first. My favorite part of the camping part of the trip was being able to eat all of the really good food that the scouts had cooked. Everyone had cooked a variety of foods like spaghetti and steak for dinner and pancakes and bacon for breakfast. That was really fun. The river rafting trip was a great experience and I think that I would like to go again next year.
