Details

At summer camp scouts can work on a number of merit badges. We will also have trail to first class for those scouts needing help with advancement. This list of merit badges available at the camp can be downloaded from SummerCamp-2008-MeritBadge.pdf

Very Important Note: Space is limited so reserve your spot today. Check your calendars as payment is NON-REFUNDABLE. This year summer camp is one of the least expensive camps that our troop has attended in years. Cost will increase next to year when we attend Cherry Valley to approx $400 per scout.

We are also in need of adult leaders to attend this week long session.

Total Awesomeness

by Scout-Ansh Sancheti

This summer camp at Lost Valley was an unforgettable experience. From the merit badges, to the stars in the sky, or the hikes we went on, this summer camp was one great camp. After getting to CPE, some people went to put their money in the bank, while others put their stuff in the cars.

The drive took around 2-3 hours, and 45-60 of those minutes were just getting past the dirt roads. Before we unpacked, a staff member told us to get in our swimming trunks and have a quick lunch, because we would have a swim test. The swim test was to swim 2 laps on the pool and then float on our back for a minute. When we came back, we setup the camp, changed, and then it was time for dinner. Dinner was lasagna, green beans, and a cookie. After our hearty meal, we went back to camp to have a quick troop meeting, play around for a bit, and go to sleep.

Tuesday-Thursday was a steady routine. Polar bear was at 6:00 in the morning. We did polar bear push-ups, polar bear splashes, and a number of other fun things. The rest of the camp woke up at around 6:30, and got our things ready for inspection. Breakfast was at 7:15, and first period was at 9:00. We got a 30-minute break before second period started at 10:30. Lunch was at 12:00, and 3rd period started at 1:30, and then our final period began at 3:00. Dinner was at 5:00, and we had to wear full Class A for that. At 6:30 began free time, in which we could go to various places to shoot, swim etc. or we could go to other merit badges, or just relax in camp. We had our troop meeting after free time, and then it was time to go to sleep.

Friday morning we had breakfast, lunch, and dinner as usual, but we had no period 1,2,3, or 4. Our free period was only from 6:30- 7:00, because at 7:00, we had a carnival with many fun activities, and we also had a stage show at 8:00. Then, we went back to camp, got packed, and went to sleep.

Saturday, we got all of our stuff loaded, went to breakfast, and then headed back home. The drive back home took about 3-4 hours thanks to the dirt road and traffic. When we got back, we had a short troop meeting and left to go home.

Meeting June 23, 2008

  • This is a mandatory meeting for all those attending Summer Camp
  • We have to register the scouts online. Please print out this sheet and have your sons choose which Merit Badges that they are going to take this year at Summer Camp.
  • Scouts who have not yet reached First Class, please bring your Scout handbooks
  • If you would like to purchase additional Troop T-Shirts, please bring your checkbook (Troop does not accept cash)
  • Parent who are going to camp as adult leaders, please bring your calendars so we can set up an adult leaders meeting. Remember, all adults going to summer camp must have a current Class 3 medical form (current = physical exam completed within the past 12 months)

Merit Badges

New Scouts should take no more than 2 Merit Badges. For the rest of their time they should be in the Scout Skills area, either the double Morning session at Camp Grace or the double Afternoon session at Camp Irvine. Rank Advancement and Scout Skills are the most important things for the new scouts. The suggestion by the Camp Staff is for each Scout to put their name on the top of the sheet and circle the Merit Badges that they wish to do. Then on May 27th meeting, we can collect the completed sheets and we can then register them for the merit badges. For the Scouts that are not yet 1st Class there will also be Open Session time to catch up on Rank Advancement.

Also attached is a camp map. We will be at the Borrego Verde and Calico campsite near Lake Virginia.

Any Questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
