Eagle Project Proposal

  • Committee moved to approve Mark Chern's Eagle Project. It consists of taking down bulletin boards/artwork on walls and hallways, repainting walls and hallways,then replacing bulletin board and artwork. Proposed dates 8/5/11 and 8/6/11.

  • Summer Camp Wait-list outcome committee sub-report was distributed via email for your reference of the protocol and guideline to follow when concerns or questions arise regarding outings and activities.

Scoutmaster’s Report

  • Now that summer camp is over, will be meeting with scouts to sign off requirements if needed.
  • Remember all summer meetings are at Sunshine Park and Committee meetings will be held at Liberty Park.

  • Philmont crew has items checked out for their treking outing in August.
  • Rifle and Shotgun still has 1 stove out
  • Whitewater rafting gear is coming in at the Monday meetings.
  • Will be shopping for 6 new frying pans to purchase for the troop, due to the tephlon coating that is coming off the pan.
  • Daanish and Alok will be splitting the cost for a water filter that was misplaced after an outing. (Approximately $80)

  • 12 scouts have completed the Fire and Totin Chip requirement before summer camp and will be scheduling a day sometime this summer to work on orienteering.

  • Grace is working on Court of Honor. The date may be rescheduled due to a conflict in the location. Speakers and an MC (Communication requirement), Projector and Screen, along with a Mic is needed

  • He also would like to give a thanks to all adult leaders and scouts for submitting information, flyers and pictures to him to post on the website.

  • Glenn will be asking the Szu family if it would be okay for him to write up a bio of Joyson and the memories he shared with the troop. We have many scouts that do not know what drives the purpose of our participation in the CHOC Walk every year.

May 14-15 Rifle Shooting/Shotgun - May 2011 Richard and Charles Location Whittier Narrow 34 scouts did rifle shooting on Saturday and 27 scouts attended the shotguns on Sunday. Over all outing was successful. Some of them completed the merit badge and many will be returning to finish up the shooting requirement that was not met. Refunds to 3 scouts will be made for the cost of the shooting that they were not able to attend
June 23-26 Whitewater / Fishing - June 2011 Ed Johnson Kern river 10 scouts and 4 attended. Troop had a fantastic time riding the rapids. Will be finalizing budget at the next committee meeting
June 29-July 4 Fundraising - July 2011 Jovita DeLaFuente Artesia 4th of July Fundraiser Thank you to all the adult volunteer for helping out in our annual fundraiser. Claire will be finalizing budget at the next committee meeting. A special thanks goes out to our eagle scouts Kendal Nishibayashi and Justin Wiguna for helping in the set up and to Victor Hsiang for returning all inventory that was not sold
July 10-16 Summer Camp – July 2011 Christina Preciado Emerald Bay 36 scouts and 4 attended. I am so proud of all the scouts and adult leaders for the successful week we had at Camp Emerald Bay. A total of 97 merit badges were completed. We won the Camp Cleanliness award with 510 points and were given a round of applause on our Colors Ceremony on Friday evening. Throughout the week compliments on our Troop organization and respectful behavior was noted.
Aug 27-28 Beach Outing/Surfing - August 2011 Cynthia Chen, Frances Cheng Malibu 11 scouts and 4 adults currently signed up to go. $95 per scout and $25 per adult. Surfing class is provided (5 hours- 10 am to 3 pm). There will be a 1 adult to 2 scout ratio. Scouts will receive 2 hours of surfing class. There will also be opportunity to kayak and boogie board. Adults who attend must have Safety Afloat and Safe Swim Defense certification
Sept 17-18 Kayaking/Snorkeling - September 2011 Jas Jahic, Dennis Gorospe Oxnard –Channel Island Approximately $200 per scout (one night camping, two days kayaking)- $25 subsidy and $175 per adult. 15 scouts and 5 adults
Sept 24 Adult Potluck - September 2011 Christina Preciado Glenn's Nishibayashi Home –Cerritos Will be sending out a flyer via email for all adults to attend. This will give us a chance to communicate so that we get to know each other a little better in helping strengthen our troop family.
Oct 22-23 Backpacking - October 2011 Grace Lee, Yi Chu San Gabriel Mountains –Red Box 11 adults tested out the hike this past weekend and our planning to schedule a scout training hike at El Dorado Park to go over and check packing essentials.

Discussion Items and Other Business:

  • Nominating Committee Report- Thank you to our ADHOC Committee for helping search for committed adults who will give their time for the year 2011-2012. Thank you to all who support and help make this troop run so that our scouts have opportunities to experience rewarding adventure that will create lasting memories.
  • Gift Items for Troop- Alok will be purchasing 250-500 pens with our troop logo. These will be handed out to members of organizations, camp, programs etc. that our troop partakes in throughout the year as a gift of gratitude.
  • Budgeting: Many times activities have surplus/deficit when budgeting outing. This discussion will be brought up again in next meeting. There were meal planning concerns, transportation and subsidy for all outings and activities.
  • Adult and Scout Training- Chad, Mikyong and Richard will be working on a proposal to present to the committee addressing the possibility of subsidizing NYLT, SPL/ ASPL/ PL, and SM/ ASM/ WOODBADGE etc. training to help encourage growth for future leadership in our troop. A suggestion of 25%-50% subsidy be applied after 100% cost is paid and scout/adult receives certificate of completion. Another suggestion was put forth that all who attend leadership training should fulfill volunteer hours incorporating what was learned.

Long Term Outings Planned

  • Subcommittee will be meeting to discuss future summer camps/long term possibilities to formalize a list of ideas to bring to our Troop Planning meeting on 9/10/11
