Naturalist John Muir once remarked that the view from Mount San Jacinto "was the most sublime spectacle to be found anywhere on this earth."
Now you can enjoy the same view. Join us for a challenging backpacking and camping trip to the Mt. San Jacinto.
• Aboard the world largest rotating tramcars
• Enjoy a short (2.1 miles), scenic hike in the Mt. San Jacinto S.P.
• Camp in a remote wildness campsite Round Valley
• Elevation Gain: 600 ft on Saturday hike.
• Elevation Loss: 600 ft on Sunday hike.
• We will have enough free time to enjoy nature.
• Bring your own lunch.
Be prepared for cold nights that may dip to near freezing so a heavy jacket, gloves and warm hat are a must, and though rain is unlikely you must be prepared for the possibility.

1 — Be sure to attend Mr Nishi's training class this weekend; you'll learn a LOT of really important stuff — especially about gear to bring.
2 — We'll keep ths trip only mildly challenging (2-3 miles each way) so that your first timer's experience is a positive one.
3 — Backpacking is a cornerstone activity of Scouting, and especially High Adventure Scouting. If you haven't tried it, you have no idea what you're missing out on. The scenery in the mountains is spectacular, and it doesn't have to be "roughing it" without creature comforts. With the right training, preparation, and equipment, you CAN be very comfortable and eat quite well. Let us show you how.
So finally after all these years of waiting I was able to go to the backpacking trip. Experiencing the nature in its tranquility provided me a greater appreciation of its magnificence, which cannot be expressed in words but can only be experienced.
From getting whisked away by tram, to the hiking in the wilderness, to the finally washing your hands with soap and warm water, the experience can summed up in one word ‘WOW!’
Thanks to Jay for painstakingly organizing this trip, it may look so simple just one day overnight outing, but the amount of planning that goes into these can at times be overwhelming. My estimate is that in the whole processes Jay must have generated at least 200 emails + numerous phone calls. Thanks Jay for providing scouts this wonderful experience.
Needless to say we take so much for granted, which in the background Glenn takes care-of. He provides us with this invaluable knowledge and insight into minute details. He does all that so humbly. Without him we could not have made it so smoothly.
Thanks Peter, for continually providing Grand Canyon and Philmont tips. Yi Chu , Uttra, Marianne it was a pleasure to camp with you. Uttra and Marianne this was your first one, hope to do many more outings with you.
Jefferey, you did a great job in working with the boys, you now have new skill under your belt. It sure was fun watching the bear bag go up. It was nice to have Philmont crew with us, to help out the younger scouts. I sure can now appreciate the agony of some of the younger scouts. But as it goes, it gets easier with every trip.
