The first meeting, on November 2nd from 12pm - 4pm, will cover a "Pre-Orienteering Course" at Sunshine park to teach the basic knowledge on how to use a map and compass and how to measure height, width using several methods mentioned in the scout handbook. This will take about 2 hours. We will also prepare fuel of a cooking fire and build a fire and set up a lightweight stove. This will also take another 2 hours.

The second meeting, on November 16 also from 12pm - 4pm, is a 1 mile orienteering course to complete the First Class requirement number 2, done at Cerritos Regional Park. This takes about half a day to complete. A well knowledgeable scout can finish the 1 mile course in an hour, most scouts finish in 4 hours, according to Dr. Gorospe.

NOTE: You may not participate in the mile orienteering course until you have completed the pre-orienteering course.
